The aim of this group is promotion of creation, research and education in domain of jazz. By acting as the leading national jazz orchestra with primarily young members, OJM presents the works of Portuguese authors and also collaborates with top jazz artists in the world, among them Maria Schneider, Carla Bley, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Lee Konitz… The orchestra will perform in Belgrade under the leadership of pianist and composer Joao Paulo Esteves da Silva with the program Bela Senão Sem.

By maintaining the melodiousness of Beethoven’s work and adding rhythmical variety to it, freedom and interaction characteristic for jazz ensembles, Ilg manages to find the right balance between two musical worlds. Among many accolades, three ECHO JAZZ awards for the best German contrabassist stand out.

Szilárd Mezei Septet http://2016.bjf.rs/en/schedule/silard-mezei-septet/ Mon, 03 Oct 2016 08:04:11 +0000 http://2016.bjf.rs/?post_type=schedule&p=478 With close to thirty albums (mostly released for foreign labels!) and with over 200 compositions, Szilárd Mezei is one of the most productive artists in Serbia today. He plays viola, violin, contrabass and various folkloric instruments. He deals with improvised music and jazz, with special emphasis on the relationship between improvisation and composition, getting his inspiration from the folk tradition. He is a longstanding collaborator of Jozef Nadj. The album of the septet was released last year on the label Not Two Records from Poland.

Schime Trio + One http://2016.bjf.rs/en/schedule/scime-trio-1/ Mon, 03 Oct 2016 08:07:00 +0000 http://2016.bjf.rs/?post_type=schedule&p=480 Luka Ignjatović (1986) graduated from School of Music Stanković, then he went to study on the jazz department of Amsterdam Conservatory, when he received a master degree. He was part-time member of RTS Big Band, as well as the only Serbian musician in European Saxophone Ensemble with which he performed in many European countries. Currently, he works as professor of jazz saxophone on the Department for Jazz and Popular Music on the Faculty of Music in Belgrade. He is presenting original material in the form of trio, which will record its debut this year.

Through the prism of jazz expression, with the inspiration gathered from Serbian, Macedonian and African tradition, this group maintains a high level of interaction. The authors of most songs is a guitar player Branko Trijić. Eight years since the debut, where he presented the music created during his studies in Amsterdam, Trijić expended the group and prepared the second album that will be presented on the festival.
